Considering Mike broke the "code of silence," he is very fortunate Val didn't break his nose or friendship.

Something tells me that Mr Douglas opens his mouth and lets his belly rumble quite a lot, he did say about how he got his own cancer which must have really upset his wife at the time, silly man.

Rumors (apparently, just that) about Kilmer's health have been circulating for some time. Regardless, this was uncharacteristically tacky of MD. I always liked him, and he has since apologized to Kilmer. That's more like it.

It doesn't sound like an easy condition whatever it is. 2 years ago he asked MD for a referral, and is still recovering from whatever they did to the lump? If his tongue is still swollen (2 years later) he probably can't talk very well and so is still laying low.

Michael is Michael. He seems like a well meaning open sort of guy. If you like him you forgive that. Maybe Kilmer doesn't care that much. I wouldn't.
