Lewis often showed a bitter and rude side to his personality. I'm not sure this is really anything very different.

Don't a lot of comedians have a dark side?

I think a lot of them are a little "off".

There's a quote somewhere to do with the idea that humor is born of pain.

Havent watch it yet but will... no one yet has mentioned how ill Jerry has been for years and all the charity work hes done for many years , I thought Id say that and remind people before watching the film....In the early 1950s, Lewis was asked to host a telethon for a little-known disease called muscular dystrophy. Lewis accepted and, together with Martin, put on the very first MD telethon.

The two hosted other telethons together until their split as a team in 1956. Martin went on to other things, but Lewis never stopped. Over the years, he hosted several other 4-hour MD telethons sans Martin, much shorter than the almost 24-hour telethons to which we've become accustomed.

In all fairness:

I was actually angry when the MD association dumped Jerry. Talk about being ingrates.

On the other hand, the telethons were pretty much the only public view of Jerry for many years when the rest of his career was pretty much at a standstill. He benefited greatly from them, too.

Just reading about the man... and hes did a lot that I never knew about.. and this little bit of info

Was offered the role of Jerry/Daphne in Some Like It Hot (1959), directed by his friend Billy Wilder. He declined because he didn't want to dress in drag. The part, of course, eventually went to Jack Lemmon and he received an Oscar nomination for his performance. Lewis says that Lemmon would send him chocolates every year to thank him and he now regrets not taking the role.He has an IQ of 190

The reporter was a complete amateur, still Lewis was a giant douchebag. Didn't like him before and like him even less now.
