I'm going to state right up front that this thread is NOT about the controversy surrounding her remarks Sunday night. I won't hesitate to report comments as off topic if you can't manage to stay away from that discussion. Please keep this to a discussion of her career as an actress, not her politics.

***************************

During the presentation of the Cecil B. DeMille award montage piece, I found myself a bit in awe when I realized how many fantastic roles Meryl Streep has played that I had forgotten about. I can't think of too many actresses with a similar volume of credits to their name who has also shown the same level of range and believability.

For me, I think my favorite role is Miranda Priestly in The Devil Wears Prada. Admittedly, it's one of my favorite "fluff" movies that I can watch over and over. It's not her most notable role, but it's the one that I enjoy the most. But I've also enjoyed Sophie's Choice, The Iron Lady, and Julie & Julia. I need to make a point of adding Silkwood and Out of Africa to my list of movies I need to see. Least favorite role was probably in August:Osage County. Meh.

What are your favorite Streep performances?

Yes, The Devil Wears Prada. Meryl Streep was excellent as Miranda Priestly.

The only movie that she's had a role in that I've seen is "The Deer Hunter", and I don't even remember her. Not really her fault, as I wasn't particularly impressed with the movie in general.

The rest of her career has been in a bunch of movies that didn't interest me in the least, so I really don't have an opinion of her as an actor. Otherwise, she seems to be just yet another annoying twit.
