I agree! It took my breath away for a second when I saw the headline.

RIP Mary.

I thoroughly enjoyed both The Dick Van Dyke Show and The Mary Tyler Moore Show.

She was also great as the mom in the movie Ordinary People.

Another thing that amazes me is the number of her co-stars in those two series who are 5-15 years older than Mary who are still with us....

Betty White is 95
Carl Reiner is 94
Dick Van Dyke is 91
Cloris Leachman is 90
Ed Asner is 87
Gavin MacLeod will be 86 in a few weeks

Valerie Harper is 77 and has survived getting lung cancer in 2009 and cancer in the membrane around the brain in 2013 when she given 3 months to live.

As someone else pointed out earlier in the thread re Mary, 80 for someone who is a Type 1 Diabetic is quite something.

I've seen a number of Hot In Cleveland episodes, but I never saw the episode where Mary was Elka/Betty White's cellmate, nor the bowling team episode with Valerie Harper, Georgia Engel, etc. (both of these episodes have been mentioned in various stories today). I'll have to check Amazon or iTunes to see if they are available.

And Rose Marie is 93!

Great cast. Many of them got their own shows after "The Mary Tyler Moore" show ended. There were shows like "Lou Grant" and "Rhoda" and "Phyllis" based on those characters. Still, playing new characters, actors like Gavin McLeod starred on the very successful show "Love Boat" and Betty White starred on "The Golden Girls." Ted Knight also got his own series. IIRC Gordy the weatherman was played by John Amos who later starred in "Good Times." Georgia Engel, who played Ted's wife, frequently appeared on popular TV shows like "Coach" and "Everybody Loves Raymond."

She will be sorely missed in TV circles, not to mention our everyday lives. In every way, she was a TV legend with two memorable and distinctive roles in two really fine series, "The Mary Tyler Moore Show" and "The Dick Van Dyke Show".

Mary, thanks for the memories.

Mary was also a great dramatic actress, receiving an Oscar nomination in "Ordinary People". I still get chills every time I watch this poignant scene of a family coming apart at the seams. RIP.
