I know a lot of people who believe in the flat earth theory. To each his own. I don't think we ever landed on the moon.

To each is their own, definitely but how does that matter to him or anyone? Seriously?
Even if the planet was flat (not debating either way) how would that knowledge affect your life today?

It is not what you believe in that makes me think these people are this or that but how relevant the topic of discussion is to their immediate and everyday life.
