Did anyone know his only son died several years ago? I felt bad for him. May he rest in peace.

Don Rickles was so awesome, one of the great comedians of all time. Whenever he appeared on something, be it TV shows, movies or on stage, he never disappointed me. I would be honored if he insulted me to my face, he was so good at that, if I'm going to be insulted I want it to be by a professional like Don, lol. I enjoyed all those war movie spoofs he was in, with the likes of James Garner, Eastwood, Sinatra, Dean Martin, Teddy Savalis, those guys were the greatest. Even the little roles he played were fun to watch, like the con man bank robber guy on Gilligan's Island, or the assistant floor manager in Casino, which I thought they could have used him to a greater capacity in that film, than what they did.

Don Rickles worked that insult thing big time, like Joan Rivers, but Joan would never dare to go on Johnny's show and insult Johnny Carson to his face with such ferocity, because Don could get away with it while Joan would not. He was the king of insults and Johnny knew that, and he had to tolerate an occasional beating from Don. I've seen many of his appearances on the tonight show, and he was known to be very gracious to Johnny Carson at times, thanking him for helping to jump start his career, as Johnny had done for so many others. But there was one show towards the end of Johnny's reign were Rickels laid into Johnny for every second he was on that show, about 15 minutes worth of buzz saw on Johnny, what a dressing down. That was so awesome, wished I had a recording of that because it's my favorite from Rickles. No one else could ever do that to Johnny and live.

RIP Don Rickles

I'm sure my opinion here is not going to be a popular one, but frankly, I never cared for the man and will not miss him at all.
This is a man who made his living by being loud, obnoxious, and insulting to every group of people imaginable. His "jokes" were based on stereotypes of different groups of people. Just saying whatever comes to mind without having any filter is not comedy in my opinion.

You haven't been paying attention. Because of Don Rickles (and some others along the way), insult humor is more popular than ever. Stand up comics, celebrity roasts, TV sitcoms, online podcasts, etc., it's everywhere.

Anyway, job and life very well done Don!
