Holy family viewing, Batman — it turns out the Caped Crusader’s fetching satin pants spent a lot of time on the floor.
Adam West, who died on Saturday at age 88, became a TV legend for his camped-up portrayal of the hero in the ’60s.
But behind the mask was a sex-mad actor who slept with up to eight women a night — and turned to booze when the show was axed.
He and co-star Burt Ward, who played sidekick Robin, also romped with eager groupies in their dressing rooms in between scenes.
In fact, West discovered the only limits to his bedroom batpowers were those caused by his famous costume.
The actor explained years later: “Because of the physical limitations of the costume, you gotta have quickies.”
That said, what can be said? Was the part of Bruce Wayne/Batman an idol of the young youth of America? I mean, he didn't drink, he didn't smoke, he promoted the good qualities of being of America.
It was, however, a PART and more importantly, it was the 60's. Even if such knowledge was known then, how long would it take to be known by the rest of the country? Assuming that it was allowed to be known, mind you, considering all the other things going on in the news at the time.
Even if such knowledge was known then, did it really matter against Victoria Ventri (Miss September 1967, on Batman February 1968), Joan Staley (Miss November 1958, on Batman December 1966), June Wilkinson (Playboy model starting in the late 50's, on Batman January 1968) or Marilyn Hanold (Miss June 1959, on Batman October 1966)? One must remember that at the time, Playboy was rather the hot number.
It's an interesting piece, about Mr. West, of information but I'm not sure how earth shattering it is, all things considered.
It was the "Swinging Sixties"! — as much is said in the article.
There's nothing earth-shattering or revelatory about that piece or West's exploits. I didn't post it to titillate, shock or surprise. I posted it because I found the opening line very funny.
Really no surprise that all that was going on back then, or in any decade. The only difference is kids' perceptions were not affected by reading Twitter feeds.
