What a talent. Sadly, he wasn't regarded as such by many in the industry. Perhaps Love, which he wrote, is a favorite. He recorded it as a duet with Plácido Domingo, but I also love his solo. Another favorite was I'm Sorry. He did a lot of substitute-hosting for Johnny Carson in the early 70's (as someone said, Far out!! lol)--back when they did that rather than airing reruns.
When he died in that tragic accident, I read that they had to ID his remains using fingerprints from his arrest records. How sad.

I would disagree with your assesment of you opinion on how the "industry regarded him".No one questioned his singing or songwriting ability for that he was always well respected and regarded,it was he ventured out of that that he was not very well received .John Denver was a great singer /songwriter but not a good actor or as you pointed out TV host.Even his TV specials were boring unless he was singing.
Wow, 20 years already. I remember hearing the news of his untimely passing. I recently returned from a guided trip to California and we went by the place on the ocean where his plane went down. Our guide pointed it out to us.
Thinking of his songs now brings back good memories.
