Almost as sad as his passing are the ignorant comments made on this site on the announcement of this passing.

I thought he was great and this was a jolt to read. He had a rough strong charisma and brought the characters he played on screen to life in a way that commanded the screen. RIP R. Lee Ermy.

He was the greatest drill sergeant ever portrayed on film, nobody will ever touch him, nobody could ever do that role better than R. Lee Ermey. "You will not laugh, you will not cry, you will learn by the numbers, I will teach you". I would expect a guy like Ermey to live to be 100, he must have forgotten that marines are not allowed to die without permission! God plays his games, we play ours, nothing we can do but hope another fresh soul has been packed into heaven today. I hope he passed the footlocker inspection by St. Peter, and was able to pack the gear.

I liked his watermelon destruction on the History Channel's Mail Call series, where he discussed weapons and military tactics. Liked how he would remind the overweight members of the audience to not eat another sandwich during the commercial break.

He was very good in the 2003 movie Willard, it was a delight watching him do his thing in what would otherwise be a forgettable picture, without his magnificent performance.

RIP R. Lee Ermey

Liked that man. Used to frequent his website years ago too, which was fun! He would actually interact with everyone on his message board.

I liked his referring to them as "offending watermelons".
