Just learned this yesterday. He was one of my favorite old time actors, known for his tough guy roles and some film noir. One of his movies on TCM last pm, Take the High Ground. Also liked him in The Alamo and Cheyenne Autumn.

Well, it was actually about a week ago that he passed away. To me, he will always be remembered as Jim Bowie in the best version of "The Alamo" ever produced.

Magnum Mike just posted a thread about the passing of Charleton Heston today. He was 84. He starred in some great movies, too. I will remember him for his roles of Moses in "The Ten Commandments," and Judah Ben Hur in the movie "Ben Hur."

Richard Widmark. Another incredible actor and a man of tremendous depth, strength, and character. I will always appreciate what he represented. I especially liked him in 'Warlock", "Madigan", and "How the West Was Won." Great man and an incredible loss.

May he rest in peace.

Yes, forgot about the movie "How the West Was Won". He was great in that. SO sad now also to hear of Charlton Heston. The passing of the Greats. Noone can replace them.

When he's leaning against the great bar in the sky sipping a beer he'll have major bragging rights. Not many people make to their 90s and he did that and then managed an extra three years as well. May he rest in peace.

He was one of my first "loves"! Just thought he was so gorgeous with that blond hair and blue eyes and surly smile.

Alan Jackson kind of has the same look. I think that is why I like him so much!

Sad to hear this. Really liked him as well. So many of the 'greats' are now gone. They seemed to have such a presence about them and none of this artificial and self centered attitude that some seem to express now.
