Albert Finney, four times nominated for a Oscar has died. He also had nine Golden Globe nominations, winning three, and 13 BAFTA nominations, winning two. He also won an Emmy for playing Winston Churchill in 'The Gathering Storm.'

He was one of the greats, but worked little in recent years. RIP.

No!! No, no, and no!!!

He was absolutely one of my favorites....SO TALENTED, versatile. Saw many of his movies but loved The Gathering Storm, and oddly enough, a movie musical, Scrooge, from 1970. I watch it every Christmas on Youtube, just to watch his performance.

Was he not ever knighted?? Seems like he should have been...

RIP, Albert Finney.

Albert Finney was notoriously picky. He turned down the chance to play TE Lawrence in 'Lawrence of Arabia.'

He also turned down a Knighthood in 2000. He criticised the Honours system, saying they 'perpetuated snobbery.'

He was born not far from where I myself was, in Salford, Lancashire. Northern English folk tend not to suffer fools lightly, and he was a gruff northerner for sure, and a wonderful actor......

Oh!

But is the Knighthood considered an honor like a BAFTA?? I thought it was more about the person overall.....not necessarily about just being an actor.

I knew he was rumored to be gruff....he sure could make that disappear on screen!

Default Albert Finney

I loved him in the Annie movie. He was an excellent actor that will be greatly missed.

It tends to be given to actors here for service to the arts, and sometimes charitable works. Albert turned down a Knighthood because he didn't believe in honours of this kind.

He could have been a massive world wide movie star, but chose not to. He concentrated on stage work, and the occasional film. Whenever he chose to work in films, his work was memorable.

I remember standing in line to see him in 'Gumshoe' in 1971. The line was long. He didn't make many films, and the public wanted to see him.......
