If he is found guilty in this incident then the negative ripple effect would be enormous for other people who were victims of actual hate crimes trying to achieve justice through our legal system. A jury pool of citizens anywhere in the country being tainted with the notion that it’s all made up. Shame on Mr. Smollet.

Its puzzling how surprised people are when a celebrity does something idiotic. Just because they happen to be an ambitious rising star doesn't mean they are members of Mensa. Mr. Smollet and his lackeys deserve whatever they get. I won't lose a bit of sleep over it. Well, have to admit I wasn't particularly concerned before it came to light either.
His lawyer should plead temporary insanity. Likely they will plea bargain, but he needs to do some time to teach him a lesson.
Such poor judgement by this young man. He has lost all credibility and likely will be blacklisted! He was a very good singer and he wasn't just a 2 bit actor--Empire is a hit series on Fox. So he can't say I'm sorry and expect to get off. He needs to put on his big boy pants and take responsibility for his actions. I would live to hear the story from the 2 brothers to hear their prespective.

Gather sympathy for him and his situation
Make him a higher profile media personality thus more valuable to the show’s viewing quotient thus more $$$
He should be made an object less for wasting the police’s time
The chief was right to chastise the media for giving so much attention to Smollet’s faux claim and ignoring gun violence in Chicago
