Haven’t it always at least been suspected if not known that this is a long standing practice? Not just admissions but grades in general. Just like promising athletes.

I agree. I am sure this has been going on for a long time...
The Price of Admission by Daniel Golden was ahead of its time.
Thank you for starting this thread. While I am greatly disappointed that William H. Macy and his wife Felicity Huffman were among the ones who engaged in this scam, it is not a surprise that this type of bribery/scam is still going on. Image and prestige are so important in these elite institutions--having the stars' children attend them is just as valuable for the schools' images as it is for feeding the celebrities' insecurities.
The Price of Admission by Daniel Golden was the book that first detailed this kind of stuff happening.
Definitely check out the chapter dedicated to Brown University--perhaps one of the worst offenders for pandering to celebrities and diluting their academic rigor.
What a terrible thing for the children of these people to learn--that their parents had so little faith in their children's own abilities (and the parents had so many insecurities and big egos) that they *chose* to participate in this disgusting deception to secure the kids' admissions at Yale, Stanford, etc.
Oddly, I never liked either of them. Something always seemed off. Like they weren't genuine. Now I know why. Their Hollywood persona doesn't depict their real self. Wonder if Lori will lose her gig with the Hallmark Channel now. They're supposed to be about integrity but wait .... Mark Steines was fired from the network after he complained about one of the executives sexually harassing some of the females. So I guess maybe Lori will be okay, after all.
If I were their kids I'd be so embarrassed that now everyone knows that I was too dumb to score well in the SAT or get in a good school.
They didn't do their kids any favors.
But a lot of their peers didn’t score well enough to be there either. You think everyone who has been in Ivy League schools for generations just has some smart gene lol.
There's a BIG difference between "it's generally accepted but nobody talks about it" and "my mom Felicity just got arrested for paying money to get me into this school.
