My son had just got back from Aftganistan. I took him to a bar and bought him a few beers to celebrate him still being alive. His fiance was with him.
Someone played American Soldier on the juke box by Toby Keith.
My son and his fiance slow danced to the song.
Since I was a regular and had a lot of friends at the bar and everyone knew my son just got back from across the pond, everyone just watched them dance and listened to the song.
Even the dart players stopped their game until the song was over.
The barmaid was a long time friend of mine and she came around the bar and sit down beside me and just gave me a hug and started getting watery eyes. So did I. So did some other people. I will never forget that song or that night. It made me feel so proud to be a father of a son in the military and have the respect shown to my son that the patrons gave him that night and it happened just because someone played that song by Toby Keith because my boy was there.
I have always liked Toby Keith's music.
But the emotions created that night by a tribute to the military by a song that he sang will always make me be one of his greatest fans.

Please thank your son for us, for the sacrifice he made and the risks he took. He deserves great respect. I am so glad he came back all right. (Probably not as glad as you are, though.)

I love him to. That one sony Kiss me again is soo good. What makes me mad is that like other country singers he always seems to get passed over for awards. I like George Straight but he is nominated every year and there are some others every year. I think Toby Keith has what it takes to keep his fame. Like Reba some stand the test of time. Some sing one or two songs that are hits and then they are done. Some like Carrie Underwood are big for awhile and then scale off which is what I think she will do over time. Does anyone know about Toby Keiths family.
