CAROLINA BEACH, N.C. – Pat Hingle, a veteran actor whose career included a recurring role as Commissioner Gordon in several Batman movies in the 1990s, has died after battling blood cancer. He was 84.

Family friend Michele Seidman says Hingle died at his home in Carolina Beach shortly after 10 p.m. Saturday.

I remember him from Maximum Overdrive. He will be missed.

A big co-star of Clint Eastwood's during many of his movies in the 70's and 80's including The Gauntlet and Sudden Impact. He will indeed be missed.

Always enjoyed this underrated character actor. Brought a strong presence to so many diverse films. He was great as Commisioner Gordon in the Batman films, but I thought he was best as Clint Eastwood's buddy in The Gauntlet.
