Maybe Dr.s are afraid of saying "no" to celebs?
If there is concern that there is a growth on the vocal cords, of course Joan needed the procedure.

The problem here is that her doctors didn't see to it that it was done in a hospital.

Knowing Joan's concern over anesthetic and using the best doctors, I am sure she would have gone to a hospital for the procedure IF her doctor had told her that was the safe thing to do.

But instead, it looks like the doctor decided to do an unscheduled biopsy without seeing to it that her elderly patient was in a hospital where she belonged.

PBS is rerunning the 2010 American Masters episode of "Joan Rivers: A Piece of Work" tonight, if interested.

"An acclaimed vérité documentary about Joan Rivers (1933-2014), filmed over 14 months in 2008 and '09, that follows her as she strives to keep her career alive in an industry obsessed with youth. Along the way, she opens up about her struggle to remain relevant and the rewards that make it worth the trouble."
