Don't know if this would count but I thought the death of Phil Hartman was tragic.

When I first read the title of this thread I thought "really?" Then I remembered that I let out a rather audible shriek at work when I learned that Bea Arthur had died. My co-workers knew what a Golden Girls fan I was--the show got me through some rough times--so they took it in stride.

That being said, after a second or two I realized it was odd for me to be crying about someone I'd never known IRL, so I laughed about my silliness. It's one thing to feel sorry for someone's passing, but why cry if you didn't have a personal relationship with them?

This^ sums up my reaction.

I was bummed when Adam Yauch of The Beastie Boys died, since I grew up with their music.
But I don't feel emotionally evoked (beyond a certain threshold) by death of complete strangers, famous or not.
I may think "this planet is a a sadder place to live" without that person, but that's not the same as having acute intense emotion state.

I got a little choked up when Elvis, John Denver, Patrick Swayze and Steve Irwin died.

Many people, myself included, were totally shocked and affected by the sudden death of Natalie Wood. It seemed so senseless and mysterious, and over 30 years later it is still controversial. C'mon, Robert Wagner and Christopher Walken, tell us the truth!

The Mrs. choked up over so many.

Here's a short list she shed tears over:

Bob Hope, John Denver, Michael Landon, Mary Travers, Michael Jackson, Steve Irwin, Jimmy Stewart.

Len Bias:

Len Bias - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I was in college at the time of his death, and cocaine was quite popular and abundant. I made many stupid decisions at that time, but cocaine wasn't one of them. Most people in my circles, probably gave it little thought, but as a college athlete and avid sports fan/follower, it scared the hell out of me.

The only time I've ever shed a tear is when watching the funeral of Princess Diana and seeing her two boys walk behind the horse-drawn carriage/casket. Was the casket actually in there? I don't remember.

But I had a young son at the time and the boys looked so sad . . .
