Miley Cyrus on a stripper pole........... what the heck is happening? Then again, why should we be surprised? After all Vanessa Hudgens was literally caught with her pants down and nothing happened to her job. Now she's doing it again. A Cheetah girl shows he naked rear end in some leaked photos to get publicity. Britney Spears is honored at the Teen Choice Awards?? If U Seek Amy, Britney??? Hayden Panetierre is dating a 31 year-old guy......Vampires are now becoming "sympathic" creatures when they are truly the purest of evil. Porn stars are being mainstreamed on VH1 countdown shows and starring in mainstream movies.

Parents can only do so much.

Our young people are so swamped with filth. It is so difficult to help them keep their innocence.

I am sick of it.

Raven Symone seems to be the only one who did not compromise her role model status.

hmm, I don't get the vampire rant (vampires haven't always been portrayed as evil. heck, the very first vamp most kids get to know is Count from Sesame Street!) or the rant about who Hayden is dating (though I thought I heard they broke up?), but I do agree w/ everything else. I didn't see the TCA live, but I saw clips of Miley's performance. I wouldn't call what she did "pole dancing" per se (looks like at times she was merely hanging on while the ice cream cart was moving), though I do have to wonder whose bright idea was it to even include a pole in the first place. and who dressed Miley up like a little tramp? Miley has never struck me as being the best role model for kids, despite the popularity of Hannah Montana. then again, I could never figure out why people think all public figures should be role models, as if being rich and famous automatically makes them so

what's going on w/ Miley is nothing new. Disney stars have ALWAYS tried very hard to break out of the squeaky clean image they've developed. Britney did it w/ her music videos from her first record, Christina did it w/ "Dirrty", Justin Timberlake did it w/ "Sexy Back", Lindsey Lohan did it w/ "Mean Girls" and that god awful stripper movie, and so on. apparently, they think growing up and being mature equals dressing like a skank and sexing up their image by doing risque photo shoots, music videos, and movies (though Justin isn't as bad as some of the others).

ETA: funny, I was skimming through TMZ as I was typing out the above response and saw more photos from the performance, including one I hadn't seem before where it does look like pole dancing a bit. not really the best image, especially w/ those way-too-short shorts she was wearing

Well, I guess all we can ask ourselves is this.........
who is buying all the products these over sexed teens are selling? The posters, the movies, the music, the clothes, the lunch boxes, etc.

IF it is the parents, then the only people we have to blame are our own selves. Someone has to be in charge and say NO.

I certainly agree with the OP. I fear for my teenage granddaughters, and for all others. I don't blame parents for homeschooling their children and refusing to have a TV, but you can still only shield them for so long....
Some of the stuff I see the young girls posting on Facebook is very scary. I have lost my respect for some of the daughters/granddaughters of close friends. It is sad.

I know, I was appalled when I saw the MC pole dance and started clutching my pearls until I thought back to when I was a young person. I distinctly remember dancing to "Like a Virgin" and singing the lyrics loud and proud. My mother was appalled, but she went along with it because she knew she couldn't fight it. I think that parents have a lot of influence and it's up to us (parents) to instill good values in our children. Women and girls have always been sexualized, nothing new, but your preteen won't want to be a stripper if you have instilled values in her.
