How else to describe Leonard Nimoy’s enduring, at times conflicted relationship with Star Trek, the franchise that’s defined his career for more than four decades — regardless of how many times he swore it off or believed it was finished?

Leonard Nimoy–best know as Star Trek’s Mr. Spock–is seriously ill and as a result is begging his fans not to smoke. Nimoy is now on full time oxygen, suffering from COPD–Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease. Caused by smoking, it makes breathing very difficult.

Man. I thought another case like Mike Landon or Valerie Harper. Scared me. Whew!

COPD is bad enough, but not quite as bad as an inoperable cancer.
