The world has lost an icon today not only for women but Black people in general. It is thanks to women like Lena Horne that performers like Diana Ross, Beyonce, Janet Jackson, Leona Lewis, Mary J Blige and so many others have their careers. We owe Ms Horne and the others of her generation a debt of thanks that can never be repaid.
Thank you Ms. Horne, Rest in Peace. You will be missed.
Lena Horne had an illustrious career to say the least. Her recording career goes back to 1952 on the RCA label with the album "This Is Lena Horne." It actually started a few years earlier with some 45's released in 1947 to 1949. And released a few dozen albums over the next five decades. I would put her up with Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughn, Dinah Washington, and Billie Holiday up with the great singers in jazz music. And then there is her involvement in nearly two dozen films. And like CESpeed mentioned, she was an icon for what she represented away from the recording studio and away from the screen, being actively involved in the civil rights movement.
At 92, she lived a long life and a productive one. She will be missed.
Thank you for posting this. "Sanford & Son" remains one of my favorite all-time shows, and I remember how he had the jones for Lena Horne.
