South Florida Granny Dies; Suit Blames Mishandled Emergency Calls

The family of an 81-year-old Florida grandmother has filed a lawsuit against Comcast over its response to the emergency calls she made before her death.

Sidell Reiner was preparing for Thanksgiving at her Boynton Beach home when a piece of crystal glassware fell on her foot.

As much as I hate Comcast I can't fault them in this instance. The Operator doesn't need to know my address so therefore I prefer they not have access to it.

Customer Service is bad and getting worse because the moral fiber of society is crumbling. Working in Customer Service isn't any better, customers can be just downright mean and disrespectful.

How is the Comcast operator responsible for the address? That person is an operator, not an emergency responder. It is the responsibility of the police to get that information. It is the responsibility of the operator to put the caller in contact with the police when asked to do so.

The problem I see is the door not being kicked in at the house. Of course you can't blame the paramedics for not doing it because of the threat of lawsuits, as this story clearly supports.

While I am sympathetic for the family, blaming someone else for this is not right.

Where was the family when the phone was set up? No one thought to teach grandma to dial 911 instead of the operator? No one thought to add a speed dial to the phone for 911 so all she had to do was press one button?

It's always someone else's fault, always.
