My wife & I are looking to upgrade our phone to a smartphone as our commitments just ended, but want to see some of the newer 4g phones roll out and the performance of existing ones before making that 2 year commitment
Looks like I may just have to add data before the phone though......
I have a $30 unlimited-4G plan with Verizon. Since existing users are being grandfathered in, I'm not concerned. I'll get to enjoy my 27Mb LTE speeds for a loooooong time.

Definitely worth a look. My only gripe with Sprint at the moment is their apparent 6Mb-ish speed limit on WiMax. Unless that's just something Clear does, in which case never mind. Either way, once they switch to LTE, it will be nice to have a choice for decent 4G service.

In terms of 4Gish speeds and coverage, Sprint is lacking for sure. But they also have low price.
Sprint will likely be the clear winner here. AT&T is dumping millions and millions into PR and advertising to convince people that the merger isn't a bad idea, Verizon will be largely unaffected, T-Mobile will cease to exist (as will large numbers of their employees) ...
... and Sprint will emerge as the only remaining "low cost" carrier.
