They're ditching the "Even More" and "Even More Plus" names and moving to slightly different plans under the "Value" and "Classic" names. Users currently on Even More Plus plans who want to jump to a Value plan will be required to pay a migration fee.
T-Mobile Discontinuing Even More, Plus Plans, Value and Classic Plans Coming Soon | PhoneNews.com
T-Mobile is also rolling out tiered data. If the article is correct, the new rates will be:
$15 - 200MB ($75 / GB)
$20 - 2GB ($10 / GB)
$35 - 5GB ($7 / GB)
$65 - 10GB ($6.50 / GB)
However, if you're willing to pay full price for your handset, the price drops to:
$5 - 200MB ($25 / GB)
$10 - 2GB ($5 / GB)
$15 - 3GB ($5 / GB)
$25 - 5GB ($5 / GB)
$55 - 10GB ($5.50 / GB)
Interesting to note that the 5GB "value" data package is cheaper per gigabyte than the 10GB "value" data package ... unless you need more than 5GB, of course.
Sprint is going to be the big winner in the consolidation wars. After AT&T butchers T-Mobile, Sprint will be positioned as the "economy" carrier. They'll be going after customers whose primary concern is having the cheapest plan around -- a substantial part of T-Mobile's audience. Verizon and AT&T will continue to position themselves as "premium" carriers, where you'll pay $5 - $10 more per month but have arguably better service.
