Finally, some valid clarification on the upcoming changes to Verizon's data plans:

Verizon data charges leak continues, $30 tethering for 4G customers -- Engadget

It turns out that if you have a 4G handset, the tiered data is ONLY for your smartphone. If you tether, your data is unlimited. This is a lot more reasonable than the 2GB tether cap that some people were speculating about.

Wasn't it used to be free for tethering?

Yup - the 4G devices had free tethering up until just recently.

I don't know if I'd go THAT far, since all their promotional material said something like "Free until May 16th" ... then they extended it until 6/1 ... then extended it again until 7/6.
