I have had Magic Jack for my land line phone for over a year. It has been great and has saved me hundreds of dollars during that time. I have had one problem calling in to various rural areas around the country. I get this message at times:"

"Your call cannot be completed as dialed. The terminating carrier in that area has not done an interconnect agreement with MagicJack. There is a legal requirement for all companies to interconnect if one carrier requests do to so from the other carrier. We hope to be successful in doing that".

Does anyone know the exact procedure to get carriers to allow Magic Jack?

I'm not sure that it's something a consumer can request. I'd contact MagicJack and let your feelings be known. I know this touches on the issue of whether MagicJack paints itself as an ILEC, a CLEC, a long-distance carrier, or simply "a website", as telecom laws apply differently to each of those.

I personally think that the message is a little misleading. MagicJack CAN connect to those carriers, but they don't want to. If they connect your call without an agreement in place, MagicJack can be assessed relatively high termination fees by the terminating carrier. With an agreement in place, these fees are much more reasonable. So it's not the local carrier refusing to accept the connection, it's MagicJack refusing to make the connection without an agreement.

This is actually a huge point of contention with MagicJack that the FCC has been looking into. Your call CAN go through, but MagicJack doesn't want to allow it because it's too expensive.

Thanks Floor9. I will TRY to contact Magic Jack about the problem. If I can find their phone number.
