Clear vs. Verizon for laptop Internet access inside buildings (computer, application, cable)

Hello,

I do much of my work in a building in New York City. My work area is in the center of the building, where cell signals can be erratic. My current provider is AT and T.

For various reasons, I will need internet access via my laptop and need a provider with extra strong modem signal for the area of my building where cell phone signals can be quite weak.

I am considering getting either Clear 4 G or Verizon 4GLTE service.

My questions are the following:

1. For Laptop Modem service in an area of a NYC office building where cell signals are erratic which one of these two (Clear vs. Verizon) is likely to breakthrough and be best?

2. In addition to suggesting a carrier, would you have any suggestions on how to get a strong laptop modem signal in an often dead part of a building?

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Verizon's LTE is considerably faster that WiMax from either Clear or Sprint.

However, coverage is far more important than speed. Just because one carrier is "generally better" inside buildings doesn't mean it will be any better inside YOUR building. The only way to find out for sure is to buy a modem from each carrier, try it out, and return the less-effective one within the no-penalty trial period.

Even if Verizon or Clear works better in one part of your building, there's no guarantee that it will work better in YOUR part of the building.

As for pulling the maximum signal, try going closer to a window, if you can. If not, you might want to consider lifting the modem as high as possible by way of a USB extension cable. Failing that, 4G-banded antennas are around $30 - $50 -- just make sure you get the right one for your particular application (LTE or WiMax).
