It's really a Mazda vs. Toyota thing....iPhones are appliances, you set them up and go accomplish the task. Androids are rigs to be customized, and to enjoy the act of customizing.

Have to call you on this one. I'm on AT&T, which installs more than 7 "bloatware" programs. More importantly, several of those programs run services in the background, consuming battery life. They also don't stay disabled.
I love Android, but my next one will probably be an unlocked one or a Nexus device, provided I can find one compatible with AT&T's LTE frequencies. Which should be easier now with the new NVIDIA and Qualcomm radios...
I'm on AT&T. I just checked my task manager, and I count 2 AT&T apps that are currently running in the background. Contacts sync and hotspot finder. I didn't make any attempt to shut things down just for the count, that's what would generally be running. I'm thinking that overall those two apps account for a miniscule amount of my battery usage. I think people make too much about so-called bloatware. It's just an app. I guess that means that about 50% of the iPhone is bloatware, then.
Mazda is what Honda used to be before Honda tried to become Toyota.

HTC One X on AT&T.
You forgot about Ready2Go and AT&T Naviagtor. Ready2Go in particular runs in the background but doesn't show up in the Android task manager...it does, however, show up in other ones. Which I just find terribly sneaky.

Yeah checked my other one. Nada. Rolleyes all you want.
I went through 3 droid phones in under two years. I went through 3 blackberries in two years. I recently switched to an iPhone 5. So far I am liking the iPhone. It works well between my tablet and itself.
The whole which one is better boils down to preference. I like my iPhone, it is the first smart phone which didn't seem terribly stupid. There are those who like droids, which is fine. I like my iPhone. As long as their are choices I am okay with it.
