Default Do you think it's safe to do banking on your cellphone?

I have seen how stories about making it easier to do banking and bank transactions from your cellphone. Has anyone done this? Do you think it's safe?

No, it's not safe, but I still do it. Banks have cut staff at their offices and with longer working hours people are forced to bank from home more. From my experience the phone, though not safe, is safer than using the computer for banking. There is the risk of hackers, which for me means being careful as possible and spending or transferring to a non-internet accessible account as soon as possible and keeping smaller balances in those I access electronically.

Safe is relative of course. But generally speaking it should be ok. Now are you talking about just checking your account ? Because to my knowledge the apps are limited in nature

Think about it from the banks perspective and how many customers would flee if security were an issue.

My tip for you is to password protect your phone if you dont already. While not full proof, can deter the brainiac from checking apps that hav that kind of info.
Security as we go into mobile touch payments and ewallets are going to be very tight. But at the same very convenient for small purchases.

It's generally safer than doing it from your computer... much less chance of your phone having a DNS redirect or keylogger than your computer. Depends what you do with your phone, of course. The only things I've ever heard about were people who intentionally installed unapproved apps on their jailbroke iphones.

I would not do it, if only for the fact that I don't want my login information and financial information made vulnerable if my phone were to get lost.

I've done it for years. Never a problem. I make sure I'm not connected to public WIFI though. I would recommend downloading a security app. I have Lookout security app. It has security, privacy guard, safe browsing feature and if you lose your phone you can erase the data from your computer.

I've been doing it for a long time. It's safe enough.
A good banking app does not cache your information and forces you to login EVERY SINGLE TIME you use it so even if I lost my phone I still wouldn't worry about someone hacking into my bank account.

Its not foolproof but definitely do it using your Wireless Carriers Network instead of opting for WiFi at the local Starbucks. Hacking thieves are more prone to sniffing out users on WiFi than attempting to pry into a Wireless Carriers Network (not to mention the equipment to hack it would be harder for them to come by).

I do it over banking apps instead of over mobile web. I feel pretty comfortable doing it that way.

IMO, I would not suggest using a mobile banking application on an open network, only a trusted one (like at home).
