I used to travel to Shenzhen, in case you have no idea about it, it's near Hong Kong. It's where Foxconn is located. If you own an iPhone, you should know it cos it's highly likely your handset is made by Foxconn.

These days iPhone 5 arrives in Shenzhen, and you can get a 32GB version from the local carrier China Unicom at 6899 RMB with a two year contract. That price equals 1112 in US dollars (with some $12 returned each month as your balance which amounts to about $290 in total). Yes, $1112, I cant be mistaken. If you deduct 290 from 1112 you get 822. That is, you pay 822 for iPhone 5 32GB version.

How about the price without a contract? Well the price is still $1112.

Do you believe it? Foxconn workers generally get some $300 each month. If you want a higher pay, working overtime!! So generally it takes those who make iPhone 5 about four months' pay to buy an iPhone 5.

No, it's not crazy at all. Apple pays somewhere between $200 and $250 for each iPhone. They need to sell it for a healthy margin.

I would not say healthy. Apple is greedy, and tough when negotiating with carriers. The mobile operators will tolerate that as long as Apple products are welcomed by consumers with high demand. But when Apple goes downhill, it's really hard to say....

iPhone 5 might be a piece of art, however I would not pay $1112 for any phone. I mean it's ridiculous!

BTY, nexus 4 16GB now available at $349. With $1112, I can buy three nexus 4.

I'm fairly certain the Apple did their research when pricing the product.

How much do you think the iPhone 5 should cost in the US?

It's reported that iPhone5 did not sell well in Apple's store in Shanghai, which resulted in the dive of Apple share price.

Those rich people in China and their children (corrupt officials, managers of state owned enterprise and the poor sell a kidney lol) used to buy Apple products to show off. I have no idea why they wouldn't line up to get an iPhone 5.

Just a guess is $500 in the US. But that's with a lot of missing information.
