So if BlackBerry is pulling out of the consumer market, how long will they support their phones out there now?

For the cuts...when RIM was on the rise to becoming to smartphone giant, they had a massive hiring cycle that brought their workforce up to 10,000 employees. For perspective, Facebook has 5,300 employees and Google has something like 45,000. Blackberry/RIM simply does not need 10K employees...and has not for at least four years now. Even if they do regain the title of King of Enterprise, 7K employees is still a couple thousand too much, in my opinion.

Blackberry 10, in my opinion, is the best mobile OS out there today. The way you easily switch between running apps on a Blackberry tops the iPhone and all Android phones I have used. Of course this makes more sense for the business/college student world where having to navigate through documents, presentations, emails, web pages, etc. effortlessly is essential, but as a run-of-the-mill consumer, I find it far more intuitive for my usage than any other phone/mobile OS.

...as long as they need too. The z10 is being dropped and replaced by the larger z30. Actually, there is going to be a budget version of the z10, which is a phone with the same specs but slightly different housing...which may or may not be the c5. The q10 is going nowhere, neither is the q5. So, the z30 and q10 are their flagship phones, with the c5 and q5 being their budget models...which means their current line-up will continue to be supported. I mean, older handsets, and OS7, are still supported. In fact, they just released a new OS7 device and an updated Facebook app for OS7.

So, Fairfax Consortium is on the lead to purchase Blackberry for $4.7B. Each stock holder will get $9 per share, Thorsten Heines will get a cool $55M, and Blackberry will now be a private company....considering the deal goes through (still has six weeks to finalize, back out).

Fairfax to buy BlackBerry for $4.7 billion - WSLS 10 NBC in Roanoke/Lynchburg Va

Many in the "Crackberry" community feel this was Heines' plan all along; crush the stock, sell the company, then operate as a private entity...either way, Heines was still promised $55M "bonus" since day one (for you know, turning RIM/Blackberry around and keeping everyone happy).

App World has grown quite a bit since your Torch, and new apps are added everyday. There is also the option to side load Android apps, too.

Blackberry, from what I am hearing from colleagues that work there are that its done. At least from the device side of things.

Too bad, they made great devices but just couldnt compete with electronics companies. They were literally last man standing before Nokia sold its devices division to MSFT.
