I've been thinking of getting a smartphone and want to go prepaid. I currently have a basic prepaid TracFone and love it. Before that I had a prepaid Virgin Mobile phone and had no problems there either.

I saw Virgin Mobile offering data/text/talk plans from $30 a month with discounted smartphones. However, they use Sprint which has terrible data coverage in my area. I looked into TMobile but felt they were too expensive. Straight Talk seemed like a decent choice, but I find that like Virgin, it seems their Android phones all use Sprint also, at least from what I'm reading. Their phones also seem really expensive compared to Virgin.

So does anyone know of a low cost (less than $45) prepaid service that does not use Sprint? Or are there certain phones on these carries that use carriers other than Sprint?

Verizon or att should be able to set up an iphone on a pre pay acct. just be warned you'll be paying full retail price of the phone though.

Was going to write a while long list, but WiKipedia did that for me already

Keep in mind some, you may have never heard of before because they are limited to a small region.

The wife has a Trackfone LG-840G and it's semi smart. It has wifi and blue tooth, on a feeble Android OS. So who's service does it use? I didn't see Trackfone listed in the Wiki article.

From what I've read they use mostly Sprint, AT&T and T-Mobile, depending on what kind of phone it is and the area. Since that phone's model number ends in G it's a GSM phone and likely uses AT&T or other carriers that use GSM.

I found out that T-Mobile offers a prepaid plan at Walmart for $30 with unlimited data and text, but only 100 minutes a month. Anyone tried it? There are a limited number of phones that they sell with it, but they also sell a micro SIM that can be used in any unlocked phone. Was wondering if anyone had any experience or opinions about it.

So it's a toss up? That's ok, cause she is surly not threat.

She gets 600 minutes, 3 months of service for 19$. How do you beat that? She isn't a phone freek just some txt messages and a few calls.

Check out Straight Talk or Net10, neither one uses Sprint networks.

Page Plus Cellular, a Verizon reseller so it's CDMA. Call them, ask if you can port your current CDMA phone. I have the $12 plan, 250/250, 10 meg data... so I use Wifi.

I'm stopping by WM tonight but were there any pre-paids with voice only or voice+text cheap? My son needs a emergency only phone for a few months.
