I currently have a basic phone from Verizon. I thought they'd redone their plans several months ago, and smartphone plans will now start at $80. Since I pay $50/month, I haven't wanted to upgrade. However, I have received some emails from them advertising a $60 plan, so if you like Verizon a lot, it might be worth it to call customer service and ask about different pricing options. Just tell them that you want to upgrade to a smartphone but don't think you'll be able to stay with them if you can't find a better priced plan than $80 or $100 or whatever it is they're offering now.

Is that $80 for one person only? Remember he's trying to upgrade two phones, one for him and the other for his wife.
