Do you think the new AT&T Next is a good deal? Supposedly you can get a new device every 12 months. You have a 20 month installment plan added to your account. After 12 months you can trade in your device for a new one and a brand new 20 month installment plan is created. AT&T says that the remaining balance from the previous installment will not be carried over to your new device and installment plan. I have no idea how much the installments are or how they figure them...does anyone else?

It's an awful deal and should be avoided. Out of the 3 options from At&t, Verizon and T Mobile, T Mobile offers the best deal.

Take a look:

Interesting. Thanks for the link. I knew there had to be something more to it...something in it for AT&T. I just wasn't sure how or what.

Thats a great article thanks for sharing.

Yeah, this is the Catch 22 with these new programs. I knew we were going to start shifting away from the bundled plans/phones, but its important to read the fine print.

I still dont think this the final iteration of these plans. I think they will eventually shift more into what T-Mo which is more straight forward.

Should be interesting to watch in the years ahead.

I know the OP was more interested in AT&T, but a little known item from VZW that is not the Edge program. VZW offers a 12 month payment plan that is not as ridiculous as the "new" upgrade plans.

You'd be better of paying full retail for a new smartphone--then at least you could still qualify for the subsidy the following year. You could also get an unlocked model which can be useful.

Don't fall for any of these early upgrade programs, as others have stated they are scams heavily in favor of the carrier. At least T-mobile will reduce your monthly charges if you bring your own phone.

Personally I have been with them for far too long and I can't wait until I can get rid of them..You are so much better off and buying a smart phone and paying 50.00 a month with everything unlimited..the family share they make sound great but if you need more data it cost more money....
