another thing i learned about the note 3 is that if you loose your phone you can use the watch to find your phone and or vice versa. since the 2 weeks of ownership i can say that it's been a great conversation pice

the watch will also be compatable with the s4 later on down the line as well

As a more economical compromise, I just bought a Pebble Smart Watch for half the price of the Samsung Gear. It does most (not all) of the same things the Gear does at a much more reasonable price. Worth a look. Will work with an iPhone or Android with Bluetooth.

FYI: I have a Verizon Gal S4 and just now its OS was auto-upgraded to Android 4.30 Jelly Bean.
It seemed to me that the main thing different was that it added compatibility for the watch.
