I bought a new phone 1.5 years ago with Android 2.3.5. About six months later, I got an ATT update so that it said I have Android 2.3.7.

This morning I got another ATT update (I couldn't opt out of it) which took about ten minutes. It's now saying I have Android 2.3.5!! (When I go to Menu > Settings > About Phone > Software.)

One of the hallmarks of the 2.3.7 was a different lock screen. I now have the same lockscreen although it's saying I went back to 2.3.5. It also says HTC Sense 3.0 - I don't know if that ever changed or not.

What's going on - I don't see anything different about the phone at all.

Just curious, can you connect the phone to a computer with a USB cable ?? If you can, try connecting and see if it gives you an option to update the phone. Try going into the settings folder on the phone and try to do a software update from that menu.

Id rather not go to those lengths, but I found this article. It may be the update I just got, but I'm not totally sure.

It says it has improvements to the ATT Address Book - is that the whole point of the upgrade??

Update the Software for the HTC Inspire 4G (PD98120)- AT&T Wireless Support*

My "Software version" matches the ones in this article, but the others don't.

TO my knowledge, you may have been mistaken.

I never heard of 2.3.7 for AT&T variant ever rolled out. You may have an update to 2.3.5 (from 2.3.2) like the one you just got, but no 2.3.7.

Unless you have a non AT&T branded device or modded ROM, which I doubt.

FYI: just because you get an update notice, doesnt necessarily mean you get bumped up to the next Android version. Sometimes there are patches or updates other than the actual OS that are applied.

I'm surprised you even got an update considering the age of that phone. I have one in a box that's rooted with a custom ROM, saving it in case I break my current phone, and break the newer backup phone that's in a box on top of it.
