For the past 4 hours, once every hour, my AT&T Go Phone has been alerting me to what I think is an incoming text message until I pick up the phone, and it tells me I'm being charged .02, and what my balance is. Only I don't know what the .02 is for.

So, I go online to check my history, and it says its for GPRS. What is it, and can/how do I stop it?

ETA: Could this have something to do with a .jpg I shot with the phone and sent it to my e-mail? Looking at my account history, I have 4 charges: .19, .02, .02, .02, for a total of .25, which is what it costs to send/receive media messages.

ETA: Just got ANOTHER .02 charge! How the hell do I stop this???

Shut off data, that is what I did on our ATT go phone and no charges for data.

If you do not know how then find the make and model of your phone (usually found under your battery) and do a search for that make and model plus the words turn data off and you should find which setting needs to be changed.

GPRS = Global Packet Radio Service = wireless internet.

Turn off data? My plan doesn't even include data. Could e-mailing the pic be cause for these charges?

Oh, and thank you all for your help.

Yes. That's the cause of the charges. You're using a data service and you're not paying for it through your plan, so they're charging you for it separately.

How else would you be able to send an email? Doing so requires data, so the charges are valid.

Ok... this was the first time I ever used the e-mail from my phone (my first phone to do that). But what has me stumped is why the 7 charges for .02? The initial charge was .19, then 7 charges for .02, once every hour. What's that about?

No need for the head slap. Get over it. Jeez, one comes for help, and you get crap. If it bothers you so much, then don't answer.

Did you set it up to automatically check for new mail?
