They can't charge you a fee for canceling a service that you're not contractually obligated to pay for. How anyone could think otherwise is beyond me.
I am forgetful, so excuse me. I must of been under contract because I was paying a monthly fee then with them. But my whatever term it was, was over and I never renewed and just paid. I think. I don't recall 10 years ago.

Sprint CSRs used to restart your contract any time you made a change to your plan, not just when you got a new phone, and they'd do it without telling you because it helped them get a bonus, or more probably, not get fired. You could be using a 3 year old phone and still be subject to a so-called early termination fee because of this.

I don't think they're allowed to do that anymore. The FTC had to step in and regulate because Sprint was so unethical. Horrible company then, and still in the doldrums today with the slowest, least reliable wireless network, and customers leaving by the millions each quarter.
