I will be visiting US (Hartford, CT) for a training & need to be there for a period of 12-15 weeks. As the period of stay is longer, international roaming appears to be not very affordable. Thus I would like to to know -
1. Can I get a pre-paid SIM card with talk time/data in US (Hartford/NYC)?(I can't go for long-term contract phones with SIM card) Basically I would like to get a local temporary number that will help me ease of calling on the go, locally and back home.
2. What are the formality to get one such kind of Pre-Paid SIM card (here in my country we need to provide ID such as Driving Licence)?
3. Which is the best network in terms of coverage, tariff, data plans? (Pre-Paid if any)
4. Lastly, if one can tell me where can I grab one of this Pre-Paid Sim card in Hartford/ NY would be great? If I purchase in NYC can I use it in Hartford? Will it be considered as roaming in Hartford if I purchase one in NY?
Any other suggestion from the esteemed members of this forum would be great and very helpful.
I don't know about prepaid SIM cards, but why not just buy a prepaid phone? They are cheap and you can find them at any convenience store such as Cumberland Farms.

Thank you. so if I am not getting it wrong, Prepaid phone = No contract phone? I will google for more information.
Actually I have my smartphone and thought of using it. Like many other country for a traveler it is easy to pick up prepaid SIM card and use it in personal smart phone. Plus can have have data plans for internet. As a visitor I might have to use GPRS for maps for locating addresses, places, store etc.
is your phone unlocked to accept sims from other carriers or is your phone tied to your carrier
