Hey everyone! I have a silly question. Google wasn't a big help to try to find my exact answer and city data folks are always full of helpful information, so I decided to ask here.

The other day I accidentally dropped my phone w/o the cover on and it cracked. I hate my phone anyway. (It's a samsung droid w/ verizon) So many things wrong with it. My contract is not up until August. I could barely stand to use it before hand, and now w/ the crack it's just even more annoying.

I have been looking at Craigslist and I found a phone I really like.(LG Lucid) It came out 1 1/2 years after my phone was released, newer operating system and seems to be a really nice phone.

Since I am currently on the Android operating system, if I wanted to switch to an iphone, would there be any issues? Even though it's an older model, I would do the 4. It's cheaper and I don't want to spend too much money if my contract is up in August. Basically I am just something to hold me over, but is a good quality phone.

Do I need to do anything else besides insert my SIM card in both situations? Would I need to call Verizon or go to Verizon store? Would I need a whole new sim card?

Thank you in advance!

Buying anything off of craiglist is always a gamble, especially a high $ gadget like smartphones! Simply go to Dollar General and grab a LG840G for $30 which has triple minutes for life and you're done. MUCH cheaper and smarter!

Have the seller meet you at the store. That way you know instantly whether the phone has a clean ESN and can get it working right away (or not buy it).

No you can't just pop in a SIM. That would require a phone with a SIM slot, and you to have a SIM card for Verizon (your current phone must be fairly new if you have one?).

I do have my SIM card on my horrible phone. I bought the phone (well it was the free phone, so I don't think technically I bought it ) in August of 2012. I was curious if the SIM card from my phone (Samsung Charge) would be able to be used w/ another phone that I found. Or would i have to go to Verizon and get a new one or just call them up.

I'm very leery on Craigslist, and will only buy from people who have a rating of over 98%, with a good amount of ratings too. I will read reviews, both positive and negative. The seller that I am looking at has close to 2000 reviews. (it's all cell phones and cell phone products)The phone that I found that I like is in CO and I live in FL, so unfortunately meeting is not going to happen.

As far as the SIM card goes, if you buy it new for $30 then it already has a dedicated SIM card with it, and again I strongly caution ANY phone from craigslist.

I would strongly caution against taking any advice from Midwest61021. No offense.

First off, if you are going used, an LG Lucid is not a great phone. There surely must be some better phones that are available on Ebay.
Just make sure you get one from someone that has a lot of sales and very high positive feedback. In the case of a cell phone I probably would buy from anyone unless they had 100%+.
You certainly can get an iPhone, but none of the apps you've bought (if any) will be useable anymore.
And you will have to adjust to a new OS.
Not a big deal.

And I would caution against any advice from peregrine as well. IF money is no object, then the craigslist route might be ok, but if you're budget minded, than you'd save FAR more money with the prepaid LG840g since your phone time is tripled each time you top up. Now if you want to be sucked into a 2 yr contract, then there's always the contract method, but I advise against it.

He's in a 2 year contract.
He will be resinging another one in a few months. Did you read his post?

At least when I give someone advice it is based on their circumstances and... well y'know... the question they asked. Call me crazy.

YES I did, and he SAID he didn't want to spend too much money, because his contract might be up in august. YOU seem to like to suggest people waste money, while I prefer to suggest alternatives to SAVE money but it's still the op's decision what works best for him.
