(I have an older Android.)

I just loaded the latest Youtube app and like before, you can't sort results by date or any other sort. You can only filter last week, last day, etc. You CAN sort using Youtube in the stock browser.

The latest Youtube app also has some clumsy features where it goes to a smaller size and you have to drag it this way or that. I'd rather just use the one in the browser, wouldn't you?

Nope. I like the app.
The clumsy feature is good if I want to continue watching what is is but want to search for something else. You can pop that window back to the top easily.
Sorting by date is something I don't do.

I had the ild evo. Towards the end i staryed having probs where i couldnt upload videos or when i had to pause a vid when i went to start again it would start over at beginning whic is annoying if watchn a hour long doc. Anyhow if u have most uodated version undo uodates and see how u like it. If u havnt uodated try uodating and see how u like it
