I have a Samsung Mega. I like the phone, what I don't like is the texting app that came with it. I like to set my own ringtones with my different contacts. I was wondering what app for texting you would recommend. I don't want to pay for an app. I have tried GoSMS and am currently using Handset SMS. I send a lot of pics to my family, But I am not getting all my text messages at times unless I restart my phone. What App do you use? PM me if needed if moderator doesn't like giving app suggestions.
Thanks.

8SMS.
Based on stock Jelly Bean text app.
Gives you the stock look and stability but way more options.
I tried them all and stopped when I found this one.

Different ringtones for different people, though, is a function of the PEOPLE/Contacts app.

I use Handcent SMS. I probably don't use half of its features, but I appreciate its extreme customizability in the way it can display text.

Whatsapp is good app for texting and sending photos to people that you know and are on your smartphone contact list.

I use the AOSP messages app since my Nexus 5 had that replaced with "Hangouts" and I wasn't about to have to try replying/ignoring all those gmail contacts.
