I'm not a big Facebook user, but I do check in from time to time. I downloaded their Messenger thing, and now I've got this stupid picture of a dog on my screen all the time. It's an icon to a friend on Facebook--I guess she chose her dog's picture for this service somehow. Anyway, it doesn't matter what the icon is--it's annoying. How do I get rid of it short of deleting the friend? I have an Android, if that matters.

ETA: Figured out how to delete Messenger. That got rid of it.

All you had to do was drag the icon to the bottom of the screen.

I think you need Messenger now to use messaging in Facebook.

They are called chat bubbles. You can turn them off in the settings. They are a handy feature, but yes they do get in the way. I think Messenger is the best one of all of the chat apps. You can chat with anyone with a Facebook account on any device!

You can just drag the head to the bottom of the screen where the X is.

Messenger was the final straw that broke the camel's back, so to speak, and is part of why I deleted my facebook account. I will not be required to install two apps to do what one app was perfectly capable of doing in the first place. I guess as far as chat apps go, it's fine, but it certainly doesn't do anything that I can't do through texting, emailing or chatting through gmail.

Plus, when it does this, it makes me angry:

It does a lot more then those apps.
Voice Call over Internet and Video Chat to name 2.
I've never seen that kind of battery usage with it. Not a big user of FB though.

It's a note 2, if the screen time is at 5%, that means I practically left the phone in a drawer that day. It wasn't supposed to be doing anything.

Only on a phone. My laptop and desktop need no such data tracking app.

That's complete and total hysteria. People that proclaim that Facebook is evil because the apps wants permission to use your camera and microphone have no clue about phone permissions.
The app allows you to make phone calls and send pictures which: need access to your mic and cam.
