I have an iPad 2. The 6 plus would be too big for my liking.

You have an iPhone 6 and an iPad 2. Now you want a Mini?
Well, I guess you would have every size device covered then!
Personally I just don't get that middle market size. Phones are pretty big today. So if I want something bigger then my phone, I want MUCH bigger...

The mini would be nice in the pickup. I doubt I'll go the route of the mini. I might upgrade iPads soon.

That's how I feel, too. I wasn't tempted for even 10 minutes to get the 6 or 6+. The 5 minute temptation was only because of the thumbprint unlock thingy. And you know what? I'm doin' OK without it.
Meanwhile my "old" iPad Air is doin' great, and I use it about 200% more than I thought I would. iMessage, FaceTime/Audible and casual web stuff is so much easier than on my 5. The 6 or 6+ would have added, what, a half inch more screen?
Honestly, I hope they continue to offer and support the 5 for quite awhile. Not ready to buy a new phone yet, anyway.

I seem to get better deals at Verizon or another retailer. Verizon gave me a good amount for my last iPhone which meant I only had to chip in a little for a new phone with much higher GBs. Sam's Club gave me a deal when I bought my iPhone 5. Buy applecare plus through Apple and if the phone has any problems you can take it to the store or send it in.

Are you sure? A neighbor told me Verizon does not allow unlocked phones. He has one so I assume he knows.

He's wrong. The government made a deal with Verizon that forces them to not lock them. I'm sure the deal expires someday, but not yet.

I just finished chatting with a Verizon rep. They will unlock the phone after your two year contract is up. You can also bring your own unlocked phone. Just a side note-AT&T unlocked my old iphone with no issues. I now use it with a second tier carrier. Works perfectly

An iPhone from Verizon is not locked in the first place. No need to unlock it later. No idea about other phones.
