Not sure if this is sarcasm or if you're serious, but I'll play along.
Kitkat and Lollipop are the names of the different android software versions, the most recent update is lollipop 5.1, your Nexus should be on 5.0.2 lollipop, with 5.1 coming soon. Don't tell me you don't update your phone software? Perhaps that's part of the reason your phone is malfunctioning? I know someone from work who was also having issues with his phone and it turned out he was 3 updates behind on the software.
