How did you get the message? If by text then maybe someone in your contacts used WhatsApp to send you a message, I'm pretty sure WhatsApp will forward a text message with an invite to sign up to view it.
Exactly what I decided to do. if I get more I'll pursue it.
Thanks.
I have this app and use it to talk and text with a friend in the UK who also has the app. The company has a designated cloud and the app, calls & texts are free. There's a Premium if people want to pay for the service and have more goodies than basic VoIP.
As a member I can send invitations to friends to join, as both parties must be a member in order to talk/text. So, I'm guessing one of your friends who has WhatsApp is hoping you will choose it to communicate with him. The original message you received should be identifying that friend somewhere in the message.

It is indeed the defacto intl messaging app for international users, with exception of folks in China.
I'm usually overseas and most people I meet that I exchange contact info with, be they from Germany/Argentina/Malaysia/etc. will go have WhatsApp. You also see it more on business cards for guy who cater to tourists like boat operators and stuff. Apparently the United States is fairly unique in generous free texting with cell plans, but isn't that way in most other countries so WhatsApp is the alternative.
I appreciate the information, but have no need for it. I think one of my brothers was the sender and I haven't talked with him for at least 15 years so I won't be using it.
