From what I heard, CenturyLink's wireless deal with Verizon comes up for renewal next year. I was wondering, does anyone think CenturyLink could drop Verizon and switch to another carrier as their wireless partner? I would think T-Mobile might be the most likely if they drop Verizon. After all, Verizon is one of their largest competitors in the landline and fiber business.
Verizon uses Qualcomm CDMA technology in their network. If you're a Verizon MVNO, you can't swap to a GSM-technology network like AT&T or T-Mobile. A bunch of your user's phones won't work. For example, an iPhone 7. Some devices do both technologies, example iPhone 6s. They could change to Sprint since Sprint also uses CDMA. That would cause a lot of customer churn since Sprint has such poor coverage in many parts of the country.

CenturyLink's wireless service does not operate as an MVNO; they resell Verizon service as a third party.
Qwest actually once did operate as an MVNO that used Sprint's network, but that was discontinued in 2008 when they decided to become a third party resale partner for Verizon. The CenturyLink contract with Verizon was inherited from their acquisition of Qwest.
