So....I know my son was waiting for the Iphone 8+. Little did he know Iphone would be dropping their tenth year anniversary Iphone X. Of course, that phone is bigger and better than the new Iphone 8 and 8+.
Who is going to wait for November to buy the $1,000 Iphone X? I'm hear to say, I won't be as I just got an Android in March.
My Nexus 6P is coming up on the 2-year mark, whereupon Google will stop updating it.
Android fragmentation has me considering a platform switch. The next Android phone I'm considering (HTC U11) is around $650. I don't want to spend $600+ on an Android phone, only to lose security updates a year later. To me, keeping the OS up to date is worth the extra $$$.

The security update issue is one reason I'm with Apple. I see they are offering the 7 for $549.

The X, from what I read is no faster or powerful than the 8. Just has an improved screen and facial recognition. For the $300 difference, I'd go with the 8. But I am not a geek or someone who needs the latest. My 6s does all I need and more.

Install LineageOS, and you're back to getting regular updates. I still get weekly updates on my Nexus 5, The Bluetooth exploit was just patched last night I believe.

The supposedly new technology (screen and such) of the new iPhones is not necessarily new; it has been used by other companies for several years. What keeps iPhones interesting are the iOS performance and elegance, security, integration with all Apple devices, and the number of apps.

Ray, you might want to check out the technical, especially the security differences between her 5s and the current SE. Her 5s is the exact size and design of the SE, but fairly soon (if not already) the 5s will not be able to be updated. The SE has a more powerful computer chip which is really important, not to mention the internal security features. That's why I went with the SE and as far as I can see right now, this will be it.

Disagree with most of that. Performance when new? Maybe. Everyone likes totalk about how Apple supports iPhones WAY longer then Android does... but iPhones get slow and laggy and after the 2nd or 3rd major update. Security, I'll give you that. # of apps? That gap was closed a long time ago.

I've never had that that "slow and laggy" feeling with my old iPhone 4S. Up until last Sunday, I was still on my old iPhone 4S with no problems.
But, having said that, because of TMobile's vast improvements on their 4G LTE coverage, my trusty iPhone 4S became obsolete as it could not take full advantage of the 4G LTE. Specifically, Band 12.
So I got a budget phone for now - the LG Stylo 3 Plus. What a pleasant surprise! Great phone for the money. More than I'll ever need. I do miss the smoothness and of IOS though. Maybe when the 7 comes down a bit more in price.
By the way, really loving tMobile's 4G LTE coverage now. I'm out in the boonies (NJ/PA) and still have good signal, areas where they used to not have any signal.

Thanks, Macrina. I will look into it, since I have been trying to get her a 7s. It's just that she is quite thrifty, the type of person who says, "if it's not broken, don't fix it"
