New to using a smartphone. My audiologist loaded an app to control my hearing aids. She also set up a shortcut so I can access a screen that shows me the remaining battery power of my hearing aid batteries.

I should be able to access this screen while I am in the app and using a triple tap on the home button.

Does a triple tap require a certain speed in order to work? I am able to get the screen to move down after the second tap, but, I don't seem to be fast enough to triple tap to get to the screen I want to view.

I have only been successful once in 50 attempts. If I tap too hard, I get a click back to the home page. If I tap too lightly nothing happens. If I tap gently, on the second tap the screen I am on moves down.

I am wondering if the problem is associated with how fast I need to tap 3 times or if it is how hard I need to tap the home button without clicking on it.

Try these steps. Settings -> General -> Accessibility -> Home Button -> change click speed to slow or slowest

I wouldn't like using triple click. I would use assistive touch in the accessibility settings. You can customize it to add the shortcut to the assistive touch. If the assistive touch dot annoys you, iOS 11 added a way to turn it off and on easily in the control center. That's what I would do.

Are you sure it's not just 2 quick clicks? I think your Dr was trying to show you how to get to your "recents". Which is 2 clicks, not 3.
A list of all the apps you have open. Just going to the app that was installed for you hearing aid should get you the info you need.

In the accessibility settings there is an option for accessibility shortcut. In side that option it says triple click to open the option they choose from the list. I assume the hearing aid is listed there.

As it turns out I can access a screen to show me battery % remaining as long as the batteries are not dead. It works with 3 clicks.

However, the screen being accessed with three taps at the doctors office that shows each individual battery percentage remaining may have something to do with the program she is running in her office. There are things only the doctor can access to program my hearing aids and I suspect this particular screen may only be accessible when she is running a particular program on her computer and it is in sync with the app that is on the iphone. I will have to ask her on my next visit.

I did figure out that the music I was hearing every now and gain was the hearing aid telling me my batteries were getting low - and not that I had an incoming email, voice mail, text message or phone call.

I can actually "hear" my friend's Iphone ringing when she has it set to vibrate to alert her to an incoming call. It is a very low sound that she can not hear - but, I can. Not sure if it is my super improved hearing or if it has something to do with my Bluetooth enabled hearing aids that picks up the sound. It has been tricky trying to figure out sounds that only I can hear via Bluetooth vs. the sounds that other people in the room can hear coming from my phone. This is going to be a slow learning process to get everything figured out.

The bolded above sounds like the usual practice of Audiology.
