Sony has always made great phones. This is not news to any phone nerd. lol
They just don't make Verizon phones anymore or I'd probably have one.
I'm partial to sony too, but since the Z5, I get the sense there's a lot of criticism from tech-types that their premium offerings are not truly groundbreaking. That Pixel, iPhone and Galaxy are still on another planet.
Me I think tech types obsess over weird things like bezels.
Looks like a phone made in 2009. Too thick and weak on specs.
It's a snapdragon 630 performance is 1/2 that of the Snapdragon 830. The only reason to get it is it shares the same LTE modem with the 830 but it's weak on everything else. This means it can't handle image stabilization.
Why buy a phone with mediocre specs when you can buy used Samsung S7 which has a SD820, AMOLED display, 4GB of RAM and blows this thing away. Never buy low grade phones, they are worthless when used last year's flagship are much better value.

I get that the specs are lacking, but you have to look at Sony's XA2s in the context of:
1. Casual users: For texting, youtube, and snapchat, sometimes the gains in specs have diminishing returns in terms of day-to-day use.
2. Users on a budget: They are a third the cost of what flagships are going at now. We're talking about $300 phones here.

You can get a new S7 for around $300. Not that the XA2 is really that bad, but it's large, bulky, camera isn't as good, less RAM, slower processor, lower quality screen, half-plastic build and you can get a new S7 for the same price. Eventually they'll run out of S7s though and it will be a while until the S8 gets down to around $300 for a new one.
