I'm wanting to get a Pixel 2XLunlocked(TMobile) since the Pixel 3XL is too expensive. Is it better to just get the Pixel 2XL? I was told you can get many features of 3XL on the 2XL through software updates?? I really want it for the great camera. I am tired of carrying my mirrorless all the time and want great pics which i read was fabulous. Thanks.

Pixel 2 fat bezels straight out of 2015, lower resolution screen, smaller battery, smaller phone
Pixel 2 XL big bezels out of 2016, crappy screen, bigger battery, tallboy 18:9, larger phone.

They're otherwise the same. Get which one fits your hands better, unless the crappy screen really pisses you off on the XL or you really want the bigger battery.

I disagree with your opinion, having some bezels is a smart design. Bezel-less is a bad design unless you only watch movies, most of the time your fingers are gonna get in the way.

The screen on the Pixel 2 is fine, it was originally not calibrated correctly on launch since then they released newer calibration with subsequent fixes and the colors are fine. It's on the cool side but not as overly saturated as Samsung.

The battery life is one of the big plus and the camera is just fine, it has the extra chip sensor for the image processing.

I personally think Google Pixel are always overpriced and getting it now is great you still get 2 more years of updates.

The 2 XL is still a wonderful phone. It has an awesome camera that isn't any worse (that I can tell) than the 3 XL. You do get most of the new features from the 3 XL. I highly recommend it if you don't want to splurge for the 3 XL.

Well that's heartening: I have a Pixel XL (v1) from a few years back that was acquired for very little due to a fluke w/Google Fi's service and me RMA'ing a 6P at the right time. I refuse to pay near a thousand buck for a Pixel 3 XL, that is (blue sky).

The good ol' Pixel XL takes tolerable photos (not as good as later versions, they say), received the same update as the 2 and 3 series just today in a push, and will be supported probably remainder of 2019. It isn't giving me any trouble, quite the opposite, so hey: that's an option if you really want to save money.

I'll buy a used, Google Fi 3, or give in and buy a then-new 4 c. October 2019 if they keep the same release cycle.

Does anyone have the Top Shot on their Pixel 2XL without rooting? I was told that it was possible which was originally for Pixel 3 only, but i just did some updates on my phone and only Night Sight showed up. Please let me know. Thanks.

I don't think it's available without a sideload yet. I don't think you need to root but you need to install the APK.

Tinkering is interesting, maybe I'm too old to play with ROMs if that is even an option. Used to be able to do interesting stuff with those, way back when, and I don't "think" Google Fi (in my case) is locked...

Are any of you 2XL owners having issues with night pics having a blue halo dot showing up when taking pics at night near light posts?
